This charming pocket compass has clearly lived a life — the brass case has developed a gorgeous honey-gold patina that only comes with genuine age and handling. Open the hinged lid and you’ll find a dial that’s still perfectly legible, with elegant serif numerals and a cardinal-point rose that retains most of its original blue and red colouring.
The needle still moves freely and points true north. A small locking mechanism holds it steady when the lid is closed. There’s a very faint engraving on the back that looks like initials — possibly “J.W.” or “J.M.” — which adds a lovely sense of personal history.
A wonderful desk object, a meaningful gift, or a genuine navigational tool for the romantically inclined rambler.
